Between 1827 and 1846, piano composer Frederic Chopin wrote 21 Nocturnes -- moody compositions that feature a prominent melody goading a left-hand accompaniment of arpeggios (broken chords). Though the melody nudges, it lags most times, reassuring from behind like a hand on the small of a back. All but three of the pieces end in a major key.
